Kai Sanchez Bio

Kai Sanchez was born and raised in Maracaibo, Venezuela. In 1992 he began attending his hometown conservatory "Jose Luis Paz", were he studied music theory and double bass with Roberto Di Mazo and Maciej Zlotkowski, respectively. At the end of 1995 Kai moved to the United States and in 1996 he began attending Miami-Dade Community College, and later the prestigious school of music at the Universty of Miami where he earned a bachelor in music with emphasis in Jazz Performance on 2001. At both schools he was awarded music scholarships. In Miami Kai has studied with some of the nation’s top bassists and music teachers, such as Matt Bonelli, Vincent Bredice, Nicky Orta, Bill Pace, Don Coffman, Vince Maggio, Rob Lussier, Gary Keller, and Ron Miller.

Kai’s extraordinary versatility with musical styles has enabled him to perform with many artists in a variety of genres. His profound knowledge of the evolution and performance of Jazz, Pop, and Latin American styles make him a much in demand musician. In addition he has the ability to switch effortlesly between the electric bass and the double bass. In the jazz idiom, Kai has performed with artists such as Dave Valentin, Nestor Torres, Ira Sullivan, Jim Snidero, Phillip Strange, Nicole Yarling, Wendy Pedersen, Nicole Henry, Mike Orta, Federico Britos, and The Dennis Noday Big Band. In the Pop and Latin genre, Kai has recorded and/or performed with a long list of artists that includes Engelbert Humperdinck, Liel (Israeli singer). Laurence Elder, Francisco Cespedes, Alvaro Torres, Willy Chirino, Rey Ruiz, Kevin Ceballos, Los Bacilos, Johnny Ventura, Yolanda Rayo, Los Tri-o, and Enrique Chia. He has also done work for T.V. shows, jingles, and musicals.

Kai Sanchez naciò en la ciudad de Maracaibo, Venezuela. En 1992 iniciò sus estudios formales en el conservatorio “Jose Luis Paz” de su ciudad natal; ahí estudiò teoria de la musica y contrabajo con Roberto Di Mazo y Maciej Zlotkowski respectivamente. A finales del ano 1995 Kai se traslado a los Estados Unidos e iniciò estudios universitarios en el Miami-Dade Community College, y luego en la Universidad de Miami donde egreso con un titulo en Jazz Performance en el año 2001. En ambas escuelas se le fueron otorgadas becas. En Miami Kai ha estudiado con alguno de los mejores maestros de mùsica y bajo, tales como Matt Bonelli, Vincent Bredice, Nicky Orta, Bill Pace, Don Coffman, Vince Maggio, Rob Lussier, Gary Keller, and Ron Miller.

Kai posee una versatilidad extraordinaria en diferentes estilos musicales que lo han llevado a compartir escenarios con muchos artistas en una gran variedad de estilos.
